The species listing is based on Anderson
& Fitz Maurice's excellent 1997 revision of the genus in Haseltonia Vol. 5, since this revision
several new taxa have been published by J Halda in association with
L Horacek & P.Panarotto,, these are discussed alongside their
parent taxa, with the exception of Ariocarpus confusus which
is given a separate page, (The Aramberri
Enigma) as it is one of the most distinctive variants in
the A. retusus / trigonus complex. .J. Halda has recently
published his revision of the genus, 'A New System of the genus Ariocarpus
Scheidweiler' in
Acta Musei Richnoviensis 5(1) 1998. A listing of other names in circulation today
is also given, as many of these names whilst of little botanical
value do serve to differentiate distinct ecotypes. A complete listing of all names published as
Ariocarpus or Anhalonium species, along with
publication data is also available.
