Comments
Ariocarpus
kotschoubeyanus in the southern part of its range grows much larger
(up to 8cm in diameter) than in the north. These southern area plants have
been given the name 'elephantidens' but are in reality just one end
of the N/S cline observed in the species. The habitat of the southern
plant also differs from the mudflats of the north, being much more stony,
and is home to a much wider range of plants, including Thelocactus leucanthus
and Mammillaria elongata.
