Genus ARIOCARPUS

Caracter generis

Calycis tubus subtrigonus monophyllus, superus 6 - 7 partitus marcescens; petala 12 uniserialia a calyce distincta; stamina numerosa, pluriserialia; pistillum unicum, stigma sexfidum; bacca turbinata unilocularis, vacua, polysperma; semina parictalia; embryo rectus, subglobosus, radicula crassa obtusa.

2. ARIOCARPUS RETUSUS

A. simplex interdum multiplex, foliis multifariis deltoideis apice retusis, apice cartilagineis, supra convexiusculis, lepidoto-punctatis, glauco-cinereis, subtus ad angulum gibbosis; areolis infra apicem foliorum immersis, oblongis lanatis, biaculeatis, adultis nudis; aculeis brevissimis; axillis setoso-lanatis; flores inter basin foliorum e lanae medio; calycis tubus 5 lin. longus, integer subtrigonus; 6 - 7 partitus; sepala lanceolata acuminata; petala 12, angustiora, sepala vix superantia; stamina numerosa inflexa; stylus simplex clavatus stigmatibus sex radiadtis, planis undulatis.

Habitat in rupibus porphyricis prope S.-Luis Potosi. Alt. 6500 ad 7000 ped.
